Cybershoes have revealed a wireless version of their shoes for walking and running in VR (the first in the world) are coming soon for the Oculus Quest and Quest 2 headsets.

Previously these have only been available for wired HMD’s meaning you need to deal with some cable management, which we have previously reviewed. This accessory allows users to strap them to their feet and enables active gaming in virtual worlds.

The Kickstarter for the wireless version for the Quest HMD’s will open for pre-orders later this year, however, the Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available for native integration of this technology into games.

Wireless Cybershoes connects the Quest HMD’s via Bluetooth and features an inside-out tracking systems. Allowing users to sit in a swivelling stool and sliding the Cybershoes forward and backwards allows users to control their direction and speed with there own movement – while also encouraging physical activity.

Michael Bieglmayer, CEO of Cybershoes said;

“Movement and locomotion has been a consistent issue in VR gaming. The main movement mechanics available today – smooth movement via joystick or teleportation – can be jarring and lead to motion sickness. By translating natural movement to in-game motion, Cybershoes addresses motion sickness while increasing immersion, activity, and enjoyment”

In other news the company has also partnered with leading VR developer Vertigo Games to intregate Cybershoes into Arizona Sunshine. With natively intregrated games it is going to be as simple as booting up the headset, the game and slecting Cybershoes from the in-game locomotion option.

On Cybershoes, Richard Stitselaar, Managing Director at Vertigo Games explained;

“It is one of our core values to allow players to fully customize their preferred way to play. We have a few people in our office who are sensitive to motion sickness so we take comfort very seriously. Arizona Sunshine already supports a wide range of comfort options and Cybershoes provides an intuitive way to bring the player’s physical motion into the game, allowing our players to experience VR however they like”
