Insomnia Gaming Festival: Rezzil

The biggest presence in the VR scene and Insomnia 69 was Rezzil, who were there showing off Player on the META Quest 2. With people getting the chance to try out Field General (quarter back training), Headers (football heading training), Hoops vision (cardio/workout) and Reaction Wall (reaction time improvement).

Most times when walking by their booth there was someone in the headset checking out these modes. I took the opportunity to check out the Headers mode, being a football fan and getting to practice the headers in a virtual Premier League Stadium being a great touch.

In this mode, crosses come into the area and you have set sections in the goal you need to divert your headers into. Each one scored will collate into points, and the application will also record the goals scored, missed, goals saved, streak, average head speed, accuracy and strike point, as well as giving you your world rank.

Outside of this a did take the opportunity to speak to Liam, who is the head of content and events at Rezzil, around playing inside of official club stadiums. These are made available via DLC and do not come part of the base of the game, with Nottingham Forrest and Manchester City being the current packs available – but they are working on adding more over time.

i69 Expo Stage

Outside of the booth, the team were on the Expo Stage in the morning of the final day, they took the chance to use their time on the stage by splitting it into audience participation games and to offer more information on the application and the use cases.

For the audience participation they played three rounds, bringing two people up at time to see who could set the highest score. This seen them play Hoops vision, headers and reaction wall, with the winner of each game getting the prize.

Rezzil’s use cases

They formed in 2017, with the vision of changing on how VR is used for improving sports performance and helping in recovery of injuries. With this in mind there is different levels to the Rezzil application.

They have Rezzil player, which they were showing off over the weekend, which aims to allow improvement for anyone in their home. This is perfect for those who want to train without team mates, no access to equipment, no access to quality coaches, face financial barriers and have the confidence to learn a new skill.

Rezzil Player is available on META Quest for £15/$20

The next package they offer in Rezzil Index, this is the package being used by Premier League level players, and clubs to help improve decision makings, spatial and situation awareness, concentration, agility, planning, foot bias and technical adaptability – all why driving date. This is also used to help players through their injury rehabilitation.

Rezzil Index has two packages, at £400 or £600 per month (depending if you have your own equipment).

There is Rezzil Index Lite for free on Steam VR, this gives you entry level drills used by the professionals. But, if you are thinking using this as an enthusiast, you do need to have 2 VIVE trackers in your equipment.

Over my time learning more about the product, using and seeing it in use over the expo, I can see why professionals are invested in the application – and that was just seeing the home use version of Rezzil Player.
