Globular Cluster CMQ3 Comfort Mod for Quest 3 Review

The Globular Cluster CMP2 Comfortable Mod for PSVR2 really improved the comfort of my PlayStation VR2 to a point where it has become something I feel is an essential purchase. So, when they released a Quest 3 headstrap I was very interested in trying this out.

WHAT’S IN THE BOX?

Inside of the box you get the headstrap bracket, a PU, Fabric and Breathable Fabric forehead pad, a celled anti-slip self-weighted silicon rear pad, a fabric rear pad and anti-slip rear pad cover. You will also get an option of a fabric and padded top strap, and of course an Instruction booklet.

ATTACHING TO THE HMD

First step is removing the stock facial interface, and move the arm angle to the lowest possible position. Then you slide the arms into the arm connector adapters and install the top strap and set the top length to fit you perfectly (if you want to use one, although it is recommended if you want to use the open face mode). Install your preferred front and rear pad on the Velcro and finally re-attach the facial interface, unless you plan to use the open face mode without the interface.

BENEFITS

As you would expect from the name the idea of this product is to improve the comfort, which for me is essential as the stock elastic strap received with the Quest 3 is very uncomfortable from the pressure it applies to your face and around your head.

As soon as I put on the Quest 3 with the headstrap installed it was instant relief on all the pressure around my face (even with the facial interface back on) and on my head, and made longer sessions more viable without needing to take a break due to discomfort.

TESTING THE PRODUCT

Outside of the comfort not being acceptable with the elastic strap I found there was some slight movement in the HMD on more active games or when turning my head quickly.

In order to test out the movement side, I went into some active games as this is where I found the headset moved the most. The games I went into were Smash Drums, Pistol Whip and Outta Hand. Then I played some other non-active games to check the overall comfort.

With the active games I felt no movement in any of the games tested, with the stronger support that is offered by the plastic and dial to keep it place perfectly on your head. With being able to adjust the angle of the strap it means you should have no issue getting it perfect never mind the shape of your head.

For the other games I went into Lego Bricktales and Moss as your are looking down mainly, and it was held solidly in place. Then I checked out Zero Caliber for a shooter and again it was kept in place when tilting my head slightly to aim down the sights. I finished off this testing with Asgard’s Wrath 2 as this has active combat, plenty of looking around and some fast head movements and again no issues at all.

Every test was passed never mind the kind of the game played, with no HMD movement and all the previous discomfort being removed. With all the options from different forehead and rear pads, removing the facial interface completely, the adjustable top strap and being able to position the headstrap means comfort should not be an issue for any user moving forward.

THE VERDICT

The Globular Cluster CMQ3 Comfort Mod for Quest 3 has impressed me just as much their PSVR2 offering, and like that one I have no issues in recommending this as a great way to improve the overall comfort of Meta’s latest HMD. With the ease of install, all the options offered out of the box and the adjustments to get it to fit the shape of your head, it is easy to get it perfect for you.
